The Croods has stormed to the top of the U.S. box office ending the two week reign of Oz The Great and Powerful.

The Croods is the latest animation project from Dreamworks and it took $44.7 million in its opening weekend.

Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds and Nicholas Cage are the big named actors who have lent their voices to the movie that is winning over audiences.

It held of the challenge from another new entry Olympus Has Fallen, action movie starring Gerard Butler.

The film sees Antoine Fuqua back in the director's and it took $30.5 million to open at number two.

Oz The Great and Powerful slipped two places this week to number three while Halle Berry's latest film the Call was also down two at four.

Admission was the third and final new entry inside the top ten this week as it opened at number five.

Spring Breakers was the biggest climber on the chart this week as the film was up twenty one places to number six.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and former #1 Jack the Giant Slayer were both four place fallers this week as they were down at seven and eight.

Comedy Identity Thief and Snitch were also down four places as they round off the top ten at nine and ten.
