You may know him best for his roles of Sherlock Holmes on the BBC, or as Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Benedict Cumberbatch is headed to the world of animated movies later this year, as he lends his voice to the infamous Grinch. This week, a charming first look trailer for the upcoming film has been released, showcasing some of the action we should expect as the Grinch enjoys his solitary life alongside his loyal dog Max. Check it out below:

The Grinch is the eighth fully animated feature from Illumination and Universal Pictures, and will tell the story of the titular grump who makes it his life mission to steal Christmas. When he comes across one incredibly generous young girl however, he’ll realise that somewhere deep inside his heart, he may also have a bit of holiday spirit.

Before then however, he’ll do his all to ruin the one holiday that brings the residents of Who-ville together, getting his revenge after the one day of a year they disrupt his tranquil living. When the Whos decide they’re going to do their all to make Christmas three times bigger than ever before, the Grinch realises that stealing the festive holiday is the only way to regain his peace.

Going undercover, the Grinch decides to pose as Santa on Christmas Eve, but doesn’t realise he’ll be coming up against the young Cindy-Lou; a girl who has a plan to trap Santa on Christmas Eve with her friends, so they can thank him for their overworked parents.

Whether she’ll succeed, and whether or not the Grinch’s holiday spirit is something that will last is what audiences will get to experience later this year, when Dr. Seuss’ beloved holiday classic is adapted for fans once more. We can’t wait to check it out.

The Grinch comes to cinemas on November 9, 2018.
