The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has set the U.S. box office ablaze by taking over $161 million in its opening weekend.

Catching Fire is the second film in The Hunger Games film series, and comes a year after the success of the first.

The movie has been on of the most anticipated films of 2013, and that excitement has turned into big bucks at the box office.

Catching Fire has beaten the previous opening total of $142.8 million set by The Twilight Saga: New Moon back in 2009.

Thor: The Dark World had to settle for second place this week as it dropped just a single position. The Best Man Holiday was also down one at three.

Delivery Man was new at four, as Vince Vaughn returned to the big screen with the new comedy. Free Birds rounded off the top five having dropped a single place from last week's four.

Last Vegas was the biggest faller this week as it dropped three places from three to six. Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa and Gravity were both down two places at seven and eight.

12 Years A Slave was down one at nine, while new entry Dallas Buyers Club rounded off the top ten.
