The Revenant has kept hold of the number one spot at the UK box office, despite a strong challenge from comedy film Dirty Grandpa.

The Revenant

It is the third consecutive week that the Leonardo DiCaprio film has been at the top of the chart and has not grossed over £16 million in the UK alone.

This box office success comes after DiCaprio picked up the Best Actor award at the SAGs over the weekend. This is his second major award in a row - following on from his Golden Globe triumph - and only cements him as the red-hot favourite for the Oscar.

Dirty Grandpa, which sees Zac Efron team up with Robert De Niro, is this week's highest new entry as it opened at number two. The comedy put pressure on The Revenant as it took £2,047 million in its opening weekend.

Dirty Grandpa marks the first time that Efron has worked with De Niro and sees Dan Mazer in the director's chair.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was the only none-mover on the chart this week, as it stayed put at number three. The film has almost grossed £120 million in the UK alone. Comedy Ride Along 2 was down two places this week as it slipped to number four.

Spotlight triumphed at the SAGs on Saturday night as it scooped the Outstanding Performance by a Cast award and is now one of the frontrunners for the Best Picture Oscar.

The movie, which tells the incredible true story of a group of Boston Globe journalists, was the second of four new entries on the chart this week, opening at number five.

The Big Short slipped out of the top five as the Adam McKay-directed film fell two places from four to this week's number six. Animation film Capture The Flag was new in at number seven.

Daddy's Home was down two at eight while Creed was this week's biggest faller; slipping from five to number nine. The top ten was rounded off by Turandot - Met Opera.
