Tom Hardy has dedicated his Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination to everyone who worked on The Revenant.

Hardy picked up the first Oscar nomination of his career for his performance as adventurer John Fitzgerald who betrays Leonardo DiCaprio's frontiersman Hugh Glass.

Despite his performance being overlooked at the Golden Globes and the Baftas, Hardy one was of a string of British performers that we in the Oscar mix when the nominations were announced on Thursday afternoon.

Speaking about the nomination at the European premiere for The Revenant, he said: "The nomination is for everybody that was in the cold, everyone who was in the wet. The film has been picked for them ultimately."

The Revenant went on to scoop twelve Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actor for DiCaprio and Best Director for Alejandro G. Iñárritu.

And the actor says it was great to work as part of such a great ensemble where there was a "smorgasbord" of ideas from everyone about the film and the performances.

He continued: "To be part of his team, I would facilitate whatever it is that he needs and it's a pleasure to do that for somebody who has got a smorgasbord of options that they've already come up with, that they're feeding you and you them.

"It's wonderful to watch him (Leonardo) create and orchestrate himself on screen and also that carries through the entire ensemble. It's just lovely to be a team with somebody like that."

The movie saw Hardy reunite with DiCaprio for their second project together - they teamed up on Christopher Nolan's Inception - while the British star worked with director Iñárritu for the first time.

There was more success of Hardy at the Oscars as Mad Max: Fury Road picked up ten nominations, including one for Best Picture.

The Oscar winners will be revealed on 28th February. The Revenant is out now.
