Hiddleston is set to take on the role of musician Hank Williams in the brand new biopic about his lifer and career, which will see the actor show off his singing and guitar playing skills.

And while the movie may have been a 'journey' for the actor, Hiddleston also revealed that it was a 'joy' to play and sing like this iconic musician.

Speaking to ET Canada, the actor said: "It was certainly a journey, like it was a journey to get there. Because I had sang before, I had played the guitar as a student you know, just like everyone else. You know, pick it up and noodle around and play whatever takes your fancy.

"But you know, I knew I had to play and sing like him. But you know it was joy. You couldn't help but feel joy when singing some of the songs."

And while I Saw The Light was shot in just thirty eight days, the fact that the actor is in every scene made it a tough shoot.

He continued: "We shot it very fast, we shot the film in 38 days, it's long yeah and it was longer. I was in everyday and in every scene and so I just, I didn't really have time to be myself."

I Saw The Light will be the first time that we have seen Hiddleston on the big screen since Thor: The Dark World - he has lent his voice to a couple of other film projects.

The movie will see the actor team up with filmmaker Marc Abraham for the first time. As well as being in the director's chair, Abraham has also adapted Colin Escott's biography of Williams into a screenplay.

Fellow Marvel star Elizabeth Olsen will take on the role of Audrey Mae Williams, while David Krumholtz, Cherry Jones and Bradley Whitford are also on the cast list.

I Saw The Light is just one of the films that we are going to be seeing Hiddleston star in as Crimson Peak and High-Rise are also on the horizon. Crimson Peak will see the actor work with Guillermo del Toro, while Ben Wheatley is in the director's chair for High-Rise.

Hiddleston is also set to reprise the role of Loki in Thor: Ragnarok - which will start filming next year - he is also set to lead the cast of Kong: Skull Island.
