Mortensen is back on the big screen with Jauja, which sees him team up with writer and director Lisandro Alonso for the first time.

The actor reveals that the film explores some of the same themes as Interstellar, such as family relationships and linear time, yet it done it on a much smaller budget than the Christopher Nolan film.

Speaking to Metro newspaper, the actor said: "Jauja is an interesting case in how you can do so much with such little money.

"If you take a movie like 'Interstellar', which was a very interesting film, most of the important topics in it are the same - family relationships, linear time, who we are and what are we doing, where are we going, survival - and they are dealt with for a fraction of the cost in Jauja."

Mortensen takes on the central role of Gunnar Dinesen in the film, and is joined on the cast list by Ghita Nørby, Viilbjørk Malling Agge, and Adrian Fondari.

Jauja is the first of two movies that we are going to see Mortensen this year, as he is also set to star in Captain Fantastic.

Captain Fantastic is the second feature film for director and writer Matt Ross and sees Kathryn Hahn, Missi Pyle, Steve Zahn, Frank Langella, and George MacKay on the cast list.
