The 53-year-old actor is set to play the part of Sean Teague, a former elite special-forces operator, in the new film alongside former WWE wrestler Stu Bennett.

Diane Shorthouse - who is co-directing the sequel with Ross Boyask - told Deadline: "Vinnie Jones is a true action movie legend and we're delighted to welcome him aboard 'Vengeance 2'.

"We have a great script and are excited to emulate our multi-award winning Vengeance which is already being recognised as a genre classic."

Vinnie first found fame as a professional soccer player in the UK, but he's since established himself as a Hollywood actor, often appearing in tough-guy roles.

The British star previously revealed he sees similarities between his film and sports careers.

He explained: "Film is like football - you join a team, get close to one or two people, then never hear from them again. I don't get emotionally involved. Do one, move on."

Vinnie also insisted he's happy to continue to play the role of a bad boy.

Speaking in 2013, the actor - who previously starred in 'Snatch' and 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' - said: "I don't tire of playing the bad boys. John Wayne was a cowboy - I'm just the badass that bashes everybody up.

"It's all right when you think I've been in more than 70 films. I've played the assassin, the debt collector, the thug ... It seems like every time I start to grow my hair I get another part."
