Will Smith says that it was 'liberating' to play a baddie because that is not usually a role that he gets to tackle.

Smith is back on the big screen this week as he leads the all-star cast of Suicide Squad, in which he will take on the role of Deadshot for the first time.

The actor was in London for the European premiere of the film and admits that he has enjoyed being able to behave like a villain.

Speaking on the red carpet earlier this week about the role, the actor said: "I have never played a baddie before. It is really liberating and fun. There are things that you would never say and never do in decent human existence and, as an actor, you get to let these strange part of yourself hang out.

"It is fun to ad-lib, to create, and to say and do things that are so in opposition to who you are."

Suicide Squad sees Smith team up with filmmaker David Ayer for the first time as he returns to the director's chair.

This is the latest DC Comic to be given the silver screen treatment as Warner Bros continues to grow and develop this world. The film comes hot on the heels of the box office success of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

As for Smith, Suicide Squad is the first time that we have seen the actor on the big screen since Concussion at the beginning of the years.

And we are going to be seeing plenty more of his as he has already completed work on Collateral Beauty, which sees him star alongside Kate Winslet and Keira Knightley.

Suicide Squad is out now.
