William Fichtner says Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles role come out of the blue.

Fichtner will be back on the screen this autumn as he takes on the role of Shredder in the brand new Turtles movie.

The film sees the actor team up with director Jonathan Liebesman, and was a project that came as a bit of a surprise.

Speaking exclusively to FemaleFirst, the actor said: "I was getting on a plane in Santa Fe, New Mexico when my manger called me and said ’when you get home there is a script, and I really hope you like it because if you do, you are leaving in two days’. That is really how it happened.

"I checked in with my nieces and nephews - who all grew up in the eighties - and told them I have been offered a role in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and they were like ’you have to do it’."

And it proved to be the right decision as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has already topped the box office in the U.S. and has grossed over $274 million worldwide.

We are also going to be seeing the actor in The Homesman, alongside Tommy Lee Jones and Hilary Swank, and St Sebastian.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is released 17th October.
