Zack Snyder believes that there should be another Superman movie before bringing the Justice League to the big screen.
Snyder is rebooting the Superman franchise this summer with Man of Steel and Henry Cavill in the lead role for the first time.
And the director wants this character to be explored more before the ensemble movie goes ahead.
Speaking to Collider Snyder said: "I feel like you need to get Superman a little further down the road before you can do a Justice League movie.
Both Snyder and Man of Steel producer Christopher Nolan have been linked with the director's role on Man of Steel; however there has been no confirmation as to who will helm the film.
There is just over a week until Man of Steel is released and it is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year as Superman has not been seen on the big screen since 2006.
Whether a Justice League movie is set to go ahead is still unclear but the superhero movie is at the height of its box office power as the likes of The Dark Knight Rises, Avengers Assemble and Iron Man all broke $1 billion worldwide.
Man of Steel is released 14th June.
