Saldana is set to reprise the role of Gamora, while Karen Gillan will also be back as Nebula. And the actress reveals that these two characters react very differently to what has happened to them in their past and being raised by Thanos.

The actress hints that we are going to see Gamora try to 'gain redemption' for some of her actions in the past.

Speaking to IGN about the role, Saldana said: "You'll begin to get a glimpse of how terrible life must have been like to grow up with a crazy stepfather through Nebula. Nebula is still in that teen-y, f*****g hateful s**t.

"She's just resentful and bitter. Gamora, everything she does is trying to gain redemption for what she'd done before. That's where you're going to find her and then, obviously, their relationship is very volatile."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 sees Saldana reunite with director James Gunn, who is back in the director's chair for the first time since the success of Guardians of the Galaxy. He has also penned the film's screenplay.

Saldana and Gillan will be joined by other familiar faces as Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, and Michael Rooker are all set to return.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is already one of the most anticipated films of 2017 and is set to kick off a trio of Marvel films.

This will be the first Guardians film since the success of Guardians of the Galaxy back in 2014 - which enjoyed critical acclaim and box office success upon release.

As for Saldana, she is back on the big screen this summer as she reprises the role of Uhura in Star Trek Beyond, which is the third film in the new franchise.

She has also completed work on Live by Night and is set to reprise the role of Neytiri in a string of planned Avatar sequels.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is released 28th April 2017.
