Zootropolis

Zootropolis, which is the latest offering from Disney, has been met with acclaim upon release and has turned into another box-office smash for the studio.

The movie has broken through the $800 million barrier and has now grossed $805.5 million worldwide so far. Not only is it the highest-grossing animation film of 2016, but it is now the highest-grossing film of the year.

Deadpool has held that title for some time but now has to settle for second place with a worldwide gross of $753 million. However, Deadpool has become the most successful R-rated film of all time.

We are going to have to wait and see how long Zootropolis holds onto the title of 'highest grossing film of the year' as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has grossed $700 million after just a week on global release.

Zootropolis is the fifty-fifth feature film from Disney and continues a hot streak of success; Wreck-It-Ralph, Frozen, and Big Hero 6 have all been huge hits for the studio in recent years.

Zootropolis is currently third highest-grossing Disney animation film of all time, behind Frozen and The Lion King. We are going to have to wait and see how close the film gets to the $1 billion barrier.

Zootropolis is the first of two Disney movies that we are going to be treated to this year as Moana is also on the horizon in 2016.

Moana will be set in the South Pacific and sees Auli'i Cravalho voice the title character. Dwayne Johnson and Alan Tudyk are also on the cast list.

John Musker and Ron Clements have reunited to direct their first Disney film since The Princess and the Frog. As well as being in the director's chair, the duo has also penned the film's screenplay.

Zootropolis is out now. Moana is released 2nd December.
