Man of Steel

Man of Steel

The summer blockbuster season is well under way and we have already had some terrific movies hit the big screen in recent weeks.

But June looks set to be just as exciting as there are a whole host of movies heading out way that are not to be missed.

We take a look at some of the movies that you should be watching over the next four weeks.

After Earth - released 7th June

M. Night Shyamalan was one of the most exciting directors when he helmed the likes of Unbreakable and The Sixth Sense.

But in recent years he has gone off the boil somewhat and he is looking to et his career back on track with new movie After Earth.

The film sees him team up with Will and Jaden Smith for the first time as the pair play father and son in this science fiction epic.

After Earth promises to be one of the biggest and boldest movies of Shyamalan's career - I personally cannot wait to see it as it has been a fantastic year for sci-fi.

A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape.

With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash.

The Iceman - released 7th June

If you are looking for something other than a blockbuster to enjoy this June then look no further than The Iceman; which will see the fantastic Michael Shannon return to the big screen.

This is a movie that I have been looking forward to for some time as it promises to show off Shannon at his very best. The movie is based on real life hitman Richard "The Iceman" Kuklinski - and Shannon will depict him in the film.

If you haven't seen the trailer for this yet then you really should check it out as it looks set to be dark and gritty with a totally mesmerising central performance.

Winona Ryder, Ray Liotta, James Franco, Stephen Dorff and Chris Evans make up a mouth-watering cast list.

The Iceman follows notorious contract killer Richard Kuklinski from his early days in the mob until his arrest for the murder of more than 100 men.

Appearing to be living the American dream as a devoted husband and father; in reality Kuklinski was a ruthless killer-for-hire.

When finally arrested in 1986, neither his wife nor daughters have any clue about his real profession.

Man of Steel - released 14th June

We are going to be seeing plenty of Michael Shannon this month as he is also set to part of Man of Steel.

The film sees Superman return to the big screen and is one of the most highly anticipated films of year.

Zack Snyder is in the director's chair as he reboots this popular story - which was written by David S. Goyer.

Henry Cavill will take on the role of Clark Kent while Russell Crowe, Shannon, Amy Adams and Kevin Costner are all also on the cast list.

Clark Kent(Cavill) is a young twenty something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination.

Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question... Why am I here?

Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions.

We have already seen a superhero movie do well this summer and Man of Steel promises to be another huge hit.

World War Z - released 21st June

If you are looking for a bit of horror this summer then World War Z is the movie for you as Brad Pitt returns to the big screen.

This is not the sort of movie that we are use to seeing Pitt star in and that in itself makes this movie incredibly interesting.

World War Z is a big screen adaptation of the Max Brooks novel of the same name and sees Marc Forster in the director's chair.

Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale and Matthew Fox are all also on the cast list for what promises to be a super exciting ride.

The movie follows United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.

This Is The End - released 28th June

There are a whole host of comedy projects coming out way this summer but one of the most outrageous looks set to be This Is The End.

The movie sees James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel and Danny McBride all come together to play themselves as they face the end of the world.

Rogen and Evan Goldberg are in the director's chair for the film and they have also had a hand in penning the script.

There are some great cameo appearances from the likes of Rihanna, Michael Cera and Emma Watson; it looks like the actress might just steal the show.

This Is The End follows six friends trapped in a house after a series of strange and catastrophic events devastate Los Angeles.

As the world unravels outside, dwindling supplies and cabin fever threaten to tear apart the friendships inside.

Eventually, they are forced to leave the house, facing their fate and the true meaning of friendship and redemption.

This Is The End

Other movies to watch out for include Hummingbird, The Company You Keep, The Last Exorcism Part II, Much Ado About Nothing and Summer In February.
