Pacific Rim is one of the summer movies that we are so excited about as Guillermo del Toro makes his long awaited return to the director's chair.
It was back in 2008 when de Toro last helmed a movie and now the visionary filmmaker is back with one of the biggest sci-fi projects of 2013.
We keep saying that science fiction is the standout genre of the year and Pacific Rim is one of the movies that everyone is looking forward to.
And we have the new trailer that was revealed at Wonder Con to check out - we see more robot action then ever before:
Del Toro is one of the most visual filmmakers working in Hollywood; it doesn't matter if he making a blockbuster of an independent feature his films always look fantastic - it looks like Pacific Rim is going to follow that fine tradition.
Charlie Hunnam leads the cast in what will be the biggest movie role of his career so far. He really has a very bright film career ahead of him with Deadfall and Crimson Peak projects also on the horizon.
Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day and Rinko Kikuchi are all also on board.
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end.
To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge.
But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes, a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi), who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
Guillermo del Toro is one of the most exciting directors of his generation and it is great to see him back in the director's chair where he belongs.
