Philomena

Philomena

Philomena is the most heart-felt and heartbreaking movie that I have seen so far this year, and it will be hitting the big screen this week.

The film sees Judi Dench reunite with director Stephen Frears for the first time since Mrs Henderson Presents as she takes on the title role: she really does give a devastatingly fine and emotional performance.

To wet your appetite for the film, here are a couple of great clips for you to take a look at:

Philomena is a woman who has been on a fifty year search for the child who was taken from her decades a ago. She teams up with journalist Martin Sixsmith, played by Steve Coogan, in a major push to find him.

It is the first time that Dench and Coogan have worked together - Coogan has also penned the screenplay - and they really do make a fantastic big screen pair.

Dench just shines in this role as she show that she can be a powerful and dramatic actress as much as a comedic one.

There is already plenty of talk about Dench being nominated for the Best Actress Oscar - in my humble opinion there is no one that comes close to her for this gong.

Dench has never won a Best Actress Oscar and it really is about time that she went home with the most prestigious film prize.

Philomena has bee lighting up the festival circuit over the last couple of months and really is a movie that is not to be missed this week.

Philomena is released 1st November.
