Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Last Stand

Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Last Stand

Arnold Schwarzenegger was the face of the action genre throughout the eighties and nineties and is one of the biggest and most powerful Hollywood stars.

But when he announced that he was going to run for Governor of California in 2003 his career took a very different turn.

He was elected for two terms and so we saw very little of Schwarzenegger on the big screen between 2003 to 2011.

Schwarzenegger returned to the big screen in 2010 as part of the ensemble cast of The Expendables - a role that he reprised last summer.

But this week sees him take on his first lead role Collateral Damage back in 2002 as he leads the cast in The Last Stand.

The movie sees him team up with action director Jee-woon Kim while Forest Whitaker and Johnny Knoxville are also on the cast list.

The leader of a drug cartel busts out of a courthouse and speeds to the Mexican border, where the only thing in his path is a sheriff and his inexperienced staff.

The Last Stand will see him kicking some more bad guy ass and this will kick off a whole host of projects for the actor.

Schwarzenegger is set to reunite with fellow action hero Sylvester Stallone in The Tomb.

Jim Caviezel, Vincent D'Onofrio and Vinnie Jones join the pair on the cast list while Mikael Hafstrom is in the director's chair.

And that is not the only other movie outing Schwarzenegger has on the horizon as he has also completed work on Ten.

The film is set to hit the big screen in early 2014 and sees him team up with director David Ayer.

Ayer has been behind movies such as Training Day, End of Watch and Harsh Times in recent years and Ten is set to be another action packed film not to be missed.

Sam Worthington and Joe Manganiello will also star in a movie that sees Schwarzenegger lead an elite DEA task force that takes on the world’s deadliest drug cartels.

For the rest of the year Schwarzenegger is going to be busy filming projects as the likes of Unknown Soldier, Captive and Triplets are also in the pipeline.

The actor has also been linked to a fifth Terminator project and another Conan film.

Schwarzenegger is back on the big screen this week and it looks like we are going to be seeing plenty of him.

The Last Stand is out now
