There are various top five movies ranking in the world. However, in the industry, people tend to look at IMDB (The Internet Movie Database) as the bible. Their five highest ranked movies didn’t change much during the last decade. Let’s take a look at them, one by one, so that you may find the one to watch (or re-watch) tonight.

Amongst them are The Dark Knight

Amongst them are The Dark Knight

Let’s face it: There isn’t anything more exciting then turning on the popcorn maker, in preparation of a movie-night with your loved one or the family. It provides everyone with a few hours of freedom. It’s a moment of pure entertainment, which everyone enjoys. But if you want to be sure that you’ll be satisfied at the end of the night, one of the five movies below will do the trick.

Number 5: Schindler’s List

We could have chosen other movies at this position, since they are the ones that change the most often, in ranking, out of the five. The other two that sometime find their way in that spot are: Lords of The Rings – The Return of the King (2003) and 12 Angry Men (1957), which is the version directed by Sydney Lumet. But we thought there had to be a Steven Spielberg movie in the Top-5.

Number 4: The Dark Knight

Who would have thought a Batman movie would make it into the most celebrated ones, of all time? However, considering that Christopher Nolan directed this 2008 movies, it isn’t such a surprise. He is the one who filmed such classics as Inception (2010) and Interstellar (2014). The performances by Christian Bale, but mostly by Heath Ledger as the Joker, are simply unforgettable.

Number 3 and number 2: The Godfather (Part I and II)

Creating a masterpiece is difficult. Imagine, performing the task twice! That is what Francis Ford Coppola was able to do, with this story about the Sicilian mafia, in America. There are scenes with Marlon Brando, in the first episode, that will stay in your mind forever. Al Pacino just took over perfectly, in The Godfather Part II (1974), enabling the director to have two movies on the podium. Although we have placed it at number 2, The Godfather Part I (1972), often finds its way into the top spot.

Number 1: The Shawshank Redemption

If you thought Stephen King only wrote horror books, then you were wrong. The Shawshank Redemption (1994), which takes place in a prison was written by this famous novelist and screenwriter. It is not his only story, that became a great success in the film industry, as we can think of Stand by Me (1996), to name but one of his great work. However, this film directed by Frank Darabont, is at the very top. If you haven’t watched it yet, do so and you will understand why.
