Terminator Genisys

It was back in 2009 when we last saw a Terminator movie hit the big screen... but now Arnie is back and it looks like it is going to be one hell of an action packed ride.

Yes, Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to reprise the role of the Terminator as the fifth film in the franchise blasts on to the big screen this summer. However, Arnie is the only familiar face as a brand new and super exciting cast has been assembled for this new instalment.

Linda Hamilton made the role of Sarah Connor her own in the first two Terminator films, but now Emilia Clarke is set to take over. We all know Clarke best from her role as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, but this is the biggest film and film role of her career to date.

In fact, we have not seen Clarke on the big screen since Dom Hemingway back in 2013, but I am really looking forward to seeing her tackle this iconic female character.

John Connor and Kyle Reese are two other familiar characters returning - and will be played by Jason Clarke and Jai Courtney for the first time. Matt Smith, Byung-hun Lee, and Oscar winner J.K. Simmons complete the line-up.

As well as new faces on the cast list, there is also a new face in the director's chair as Alan Taylor is at the helm of this franchise for the first time. However, Taylor is no stranger to tackling big projects having been a director on Game of Thrones before steering Thor: The Dark World to success in 2013.

When John Connor (Clarke), leader of the human resistance, sends Sgt. Kyle Reese (Courtney) back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor (Clarke) and safeguard the future, an unexpected turn of events creates a fractured timeline.

Now, Sgt. Reese finds himself in a new and unfamiliar version of the past, where he is faced with unlikely allies, including the Guardian (Arnold Schwarzenegger), dangerous new enemies, and an unexpected new mission: To reset the future...

It has been six year since we have seen a Terminator film in the big screen, and it is fair to say that the last two have not been that great and failed to live up to the high expectations of the fans. So far, the trailers promise that Terminator Genisys could breathe new life into this franchise.

Terminator Genisys is released 2nd July.
