The Book Thief is one of the movies not to miss in the new year as Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson return to the big screen.

The Book Thief is a big screen adaptation of the novel of the same name by Markus Zusak, and will see Brian Percival in the director's chair.

This is the first film project for Percival since A Boy Called Dad, after working on a strong of Downtown Abbey episodes for the small screen.

Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson are the two big names on the cast list, but we will be introduced to new acting talent Sophie Nelisse.

She will take on the role of Liesel Meminger in what is just her third feature film role.

The Book Thief tells the story of Liesel, an extraordinary and courageous young girl sent to live with a foster family in World War II Germany.

She learns to read with encouragement from her new family and Max, a Jewish refugee who they are hiding under the stairs. For Liesel and Max, the power of words and imagination become the only escape from the tumultuous events happening around them.

The Book Thief is a life-affirming story of survival and of the resilience of the human spirit.

The Book Thief is released 26th February 2014
