Eddie Redmayne has been one of the most talked about actors this year - thanks to his stunning performance in The Theory of Everything - and he is going to be the name on everyone's lips as we head into 2016.

The Danish Girl

The Danish Girl

The Danish Girl will mark the return of Redmayne to the big screen for only the second time since his Oscar winning performance in the Stephen Hawking biopic... and many are tipping the British actor to be in the Oscar race for his upcoming performance.

The movie will see Redmayne reunite with filmmaker Tom Hooper for their second film project together; they first teamed up for Les Miserables back in 2013. The Danish Girl is based on the novel of the same name by David Ebershoff and is the first feature for Hooper since he enjoyed huge success with the musical.

Redmayne is set to take on the role of Lili Elbe in the film, one of the first known recipients of gender reassignment surgery, as he stars alongside Alicia Vikander. Vikander is set to take on the role of Elbe's wife Gerda Wegener as the two actors work together for the first time.

Hooper has brought together a very exciting cast for the film, as Redmayne and Vikander are joined by Matthias Schoenaerts, Ben Whishaw, Amber Heard, and Sebastian Koch.

The Danish Girl is the remarkable love story inspired by the lives of Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener (Redmayne and Vikander), and directed by Academy Award winner Tom Hooper. Lili and Gerda's marriage and work evolve as they navigate Lili's ground-breaking journey as a transgender pioneer.

Ever since the first image of Redmayne as Lili was revealed earlier this year, it has been one of the most talked about movies of 2016 - I really cannot wait to see him in this movie because it look like he is going to deliver another stunning performance.

Redmayne is already being tipped as a potential Best Actor Oscar nominee and the nod would come a year after he got his hands on the award for the very first time. Could he become the first actor since Tom Hanks to win the Best Actor Academy Award two year on the trot? I guess we are going to have to wait and see.

The Danish Girl really is promising to be one of the first 'must-see' films of 2016 and I can't wait to see what Hooper delivers with the incredible and inspiring true story. There are some truly terrific actors on board - Redmayne and Vikander look set to shine - and it is going to be great to see them explore these characters and themes.

The Danish Girl is released 1st January 2016.
