The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

2013 is set to be a year full of great movies with the likes of Iron Man 3, Man of Steel, Star Trek Into Darkness and Elysium all on the horizon throughout the year – I have to admit that these are all projects that FemaleFirst are super excited about.

But we are already looking at some of the films that are being shot right now and we are just as excited about those projects.

-  The Amazing Spider Man 2

The Amazing Spider Man was one of the most successful films of last year as the popular franchise was given a re-boot.

There is a new director and a new actor as Marc Webb teamed with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.

And film bosses have wasted no time in getting this second film into production as shooting on the sequel got under way earlier this month.

Webb is back in the director’s chair while Garfield and Stone will be reprising their roles of Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy.

But there are some terrific new additions to the cast list as Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley and Paul Giamatti are all on board.

Foxx is set to take on the role of Electro in the film while Woodley will give us the first glimpse of the new Mary Jane Watson.

The Amazing Spider Man 2 is set for an 18th April 2014 release.

- Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Filming is still underway on Hunger Games: Catching Fire – despite the fact that it will be hitting the big screen this November.

Catching Fire is one of the most highly anticipated films of the year after The Hunger Games was a triumph last summer.

Best Actress Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence is back as Katniss Everdeen while Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson and Elizabeth Banks are all reprising roles.

Katniss and Peeta face more danger second time around as they are forced back into the Games to represent their district in the Quarter Quell – but things don’t go according to plan for President Snow.

While there are some familiar faces returning there are also some great additions to the cast list as Sam Claflin and Jena Malone are set to play Finnick Odair and Johanna Mason.

Philip Seymour Hoffman will also give us a first glimpse of Plutarch Havensbee – but he is a character that we will be seeing much more of in Mockingjay.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is released 22nd November.

- Sin City: A Dame To Kill For

It was back in 2005 that we were treated to Sin City, a big screen adaptation of the Frank Miller graphic novel, and FINALLY we are getting the long awaited sequel.

Yes production is underway on Sin City: A Dame To Kill For and this is one of the movies that I am so looking forward to as the first one was just a tremendous piece of cinema.

Robert Rodriguez is in the director’s chair with Frank Miller while Miller has also penned the screenplay.

Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba are reprising their roles of John Hartigan, Nancy Callahan and Marv from the first film

Josh Brolin takes over the role of Dwight McCarthy from Clive Own while Joseph Gordon Levitt, Juno Temple and Eva Green are some of the exciting additions to the cast list.

The town's most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more reviled inhabitants.

Sin City – A Dame To Kill For is released later this year.

-  Prisoners

Hugh Jackman is one of FemaleFirst’s favourite actors and so you will be pleased to hear that he is currently working on a new project.

The movie marks the return to the director’s chair for Denis Villeneuve and sees Jackman work with him for the first time.

A cast list with Jackman on is exciting enough but the film sees him team up with fellow hottie Jake Gyllenhaal – Paul Dano, Maria Bello, Viola Davis and Terrence Howard are all on the cast list.

A Boston man kidnaps the person he suspects is behind the disappearance of his young daughter and her best friend.

The movie is set to hit American cinema screen in September with a UK release to follow.

-  Winter’s Tale

Winter’s Tale is another very exciting movie that is shooting right at this very moment Oscar winner Russell Crowe is set to team up with Will Smith.

It’s fair to say that we have not seen too much of Smith on the big screen in the last couple of years but all that is about to change with a series of projects in the pipeline.

Winter’s Tale is a big screen adaptation of the Mark Helprin novel of the same name and will see Akiva Goldsman back in the director’s chair – he also penned the screenplay.

Goldsman has made his name in TV but Winter’s Tale will see him make his big screen directorial debut… and what a cast he has enlisted to help him do it.

Smith and Crowe will be joined by Jessica Brown Findley, Colin Farrell, Matt Bomer and Oscar winner Jennifer Connelly.

Winter’s Tale is a fantasy film that is set in 19th century and present day Manhattan and follows a thief and a dying girl.

-  Grudge Match

The first image from Grudge Match was released last week and sees Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone return to the genre of the boxing movie.

Peter Segal is in the director’s chair for the film that sees De Niro and Stallone playing ageing boxers who come out of retirement to face on another in the ring one last time.

Seeing that both De Niro and Stallone have playing iconic roles in the boxing genre before this is a film that I am particularly excited about.

There are a couple of other exciting films that are due to start production in the early part of this year and that is Captain America: The Winter Soldier and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier will see Chris Evans return to the title role for the second standalone film for the character – the first coming in 2011.

Anthony and Joe Russo are in the director’s chair while Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo will also be on the cast list.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is the sequel to First Class and will see Bryan Singer director and X-Men movie for the first time since X2.

Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult are all back while Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan and Hugh Jackman are the big name additions.

Both films are due for a summer 2014 release.
