Nathan Kress in Into The Storm

Nathan Kress in Into The Storm

Nathan Kress, the star of Into the Storm stepped into the limelight at the age of four when most children are still playing with their train set.

He started out modelling for print and in small voiceover roles that led to his first role in Babe: Pig in the City. We take you through the different roles of Nathan Kress from Babe right through to his role on iCarly and finally, his first huge feature film role in Into the Storm.

Early roles

Kress landed his first role when he was just six in Babe: Pig in the City (1998), voicing two roles, Easy and Tough pup. Babe: Pig in the City, is the story of a pig raised by sheep dogs.

When the farm of Babe’s owner is at risk due to Farmer Hodgett becoming injured, Babe heads towards the lights of the City to save it. Kress was successful in his voice role, but decided to take a break in acting only to have his interest re-piqued and return to play a small voice role in Chicken Little.

An animated comedy starring Zach Braff and Joan Cusack, Chicken Little (2005) is the story of a chicken who must save his town and his tarnished reputation when aliens start an invasion.

After playing other minor roles, Kress finally drew recognition from older audiences landing a recurring role in Jimmy Kimmel Live (2005-2006) skits when he was still in fifth grade. He played various characters; one of his favourites being a young Simon Cowell in an American Idol skit.

Disney and Nickelodeon

Kress had a small role in Disney show, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody (2007) starring twins Cole Sprouse and Dylan Sprouse, before joining iCarly over at Nickelodeon.

The Suite Life role was only for one episode, playing the character of Jamie in Back in the Game. However, the popularity of the show and the confidence of Kress’s performance brought the attention of casting agents from other channels.

Nathan first became a household name among adolescents playing his role on the hit Nickelodeon show iCarly (2007). He plays the technical producer of Carly’s online show, Freddie Benson.

Throughout the show, it is obvious that Freddie fancies Carly (Miranda Cosgrove) and he continues to feud with Carly’s co-star Sam (Jeanette McCurdy). Nathan began on iCarly in 2007, and it has been his longest running role, leaving it only in 2012 when the show came to an end amidst many young adolescent tears. As Nickelodeons most-watched teen show, Kress shot to fame playing the comic, cute and nerdy character.

Dan Schneider, the executive producer of the show told TVGuide.com, 'In television, you don’t want to over-stay your welcome. I want to go out the way we are - on a creative high-note.'

With that, Kress was free to explore other roles, particularly searching for roles that were different from the role that had defined his teen years.

Into The Storm

We are about to see Nathan Kress in a whole different light. Kress recently described how this role was a challenging step away from his time on ratings giant iCarly.

He no longer plays a comedic role, but instead more of a teenager finding his feet and exploring new things. He will star alongside, Sarah Wayne Callies (The Walking Dead) and Richard Armitage (The Hobbit) who will play the roles of environmentalist and storm chaser respectively.

We look forward to seeing how Nathan deals with the big bad world of feature films.

Into the Storm will be in UK cinemas on 20th August.
