X-Men: Days of Future Past

X-Men: Days of Future Past

The X-Men film franchise has been thrilling fans for nearly fifteen years, with the original trilogy, prequel, and spin-offs all hitting the big screen.

This week we see stars from the original trilogy and X-Men: First Class collide for the first time in X-Men: Days of Future Past: which is the most anticipated film of the summer.

To celebrate the release of the film, we take a look at some of the best X-Men moments so far - and there were plenty to choose from. Possible Spoilers!!

- Magneto Raises Cars - X-Men

I am a big fan of the first X-Men film, but it is short of truly spectacular moments: Bryan Singer instead concentrated on introducing a range of characters, setting the scene, and telling the story.

However, there is one truly, standout moment in the film, and that is when we really get to see Magneto's power in all of its glory.

His power over metal is hinted at at the beginning of the film, but the train station sequence sees him scare the shit out of the humans.

Not only do we see him rip the front of a train to pieces, but he levitates cars, and holds the humans at gun point. This is one mutant not to be messed with.

- Colossus First Appearance - X2

Colossus is a character that doesn't feature all that much in the original trilogy, but he does make one hell of an entrance.

If someone breaks into your house, this is the guy you want there to fight them off.

Stryker's men may have had guns, but they were no match for Colossus' organic steel form. He proceeded to thrown them through a wall.

- Wolverine Rampage - X2

We have always known that Wolverine loves a fight, and that was pretty evident at the beginning of X2.

'You picked the wrong house, bud' remains one of Wolverine's best lines, as he comes face to face with the first of Stryker's men at Xavier's school.

Wolverine goes on a one-man rampage - killing just about everyone - as he tries to protect the mutant children.

It is one of the best action sequences in X2, and show off the animal side of this terrific character.

- Battle with Deathstrike - X2

Wolverine is part of some terrific fight scenes in X2, and his battle with Deathstrike is another terrific moment.

Logan thinks he is the only one with an adamantium skeleton, but Deathstike turns out to be another of Stryker's experiments.

The adamantium enhanced pair go head to head in a ferocious battle to the death: Wolverine comes up with an interesting way to kill his foe.

- Jean Grey Hold Back Water - X2

The character of Jean Grey really does come into her own in X2 as she begins to struggle to control her powers.

However, she shows just how powerful she is at the end of the film, as she sacrifices herself to save the other X-Men.

Jean holds back the water that is set to engulf them, while lifting the X-Men jet to safety. This is a heroic and heartbreaking moment for all X-Men fans.

- Meet Angel - X-Men: The Last Stand

Warren Worthington III aka Angel is one of the new characters that we are introduced to at the beginning of X-Men: The Last Stand.

We meet him at the beginning of the film as a child when he is trying to cut off his wings: his father finds him and discovers that he is a mutant.

Years later Warren Worthington II has developed a 'cure' for the mutants, and insists that his son takes it first.

However, a change of heart at the last moment, gives us a chance to see Angel and his wings in all their glory.

- Golden Bridge - X-Men: The Last Stand

The Last Stand is packed with some terrific special effects, and the destruction of Golden Gate Bridge is just one of them.

Magneto uses the Golden Gate Bridge to link Alcatraz to the San Francisco mainland to help his attack on Worthington Labs: who are behind the 'cure'.

This is a terrific moment in the movie, which shows Magneto off at his most powerful and ruthless.

- Jean Grey Unleashes The Phoenix - X-Men: The Last Stand

Jean Grey reappears in The Last Stand as the Phoenix: who has a power that no one can stop.

Phoenix joins forces with Magneto and is his secret weapon when it comes to destroying Worthington Labs and anyone who stands in his way.

As the battle unfolds, Phoenix is unleashed, killing everything in her path. Only Wolverine can get close enough to end it.

It's heartbreak for Wolverine as he is forced to kill the woman he loves.

- Wolverine Cameo - X-Men: First Class

X-Men: First Class took us back to the sixties, and the early days of the friendship between Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr.

However, director Matthew Vaughn did manage to sneak in a terrific cameo scene from Hugh Jackman as he reprised his role as Wolverine.

Jackman may only be on screen for a few seconds, but his f-bomb means it is a moment that you won't forget.

- Beast - X-Men: First Class

Nicholas Hoult takes on the role of Hank McCoy in the prequel film, and is working on a cure that will solve any appearance issues a mutation may give you.

He believes that Mystique's blood holds the key... however, when he tries the 'cure' on himself, it all goes horribly wrong.

As the X-Men meet at the jet to set out and story Shaw, we get our first real look at Beast.

- Meet Magneto - X-Men: First Class

Michael Fassbender gives a terrific performance as Erik Lensherr in X-Men: First Class - a man who is full of rage.

However, it is not until the end of the movie that we are truly introduced to the character of Magneto.

Wearing the helmet that will keep Xavier out of this mind, Magneto, Angel, Riptide, Azazel, and Mystique free Emma Frost: a great end to a film and real introduction to a popular villain.

We have already been treated to a series of fantastic X-Men moments, but what will the new film hold in store?

X-Men: Days of Future Past is released 22nd May.
