Benedict Cumberbatch

Benedict Cumberbatch is one of the most in demand actors in Hollywood at the moment, and he is back on the big screen this week with his new film The Fifth Estate.

The Fifth Estate sees Cumberbatch team up with director Bill Condon for the first time in what kicks off a very busy period for the actor: if you are a fan of Cumberbatch then you are in for a treat over the coming months.

We take a look at the projects on the horizon for this actor, starting with The Fifth Estate.

The Fifth Estate sees Cumberbatch take on the role of Julian Assange, in a film about the formation and rise of WikiLeaks.

The movie is inspired by the book Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange and the World's Most Dangerous Website by Daniel Domscheit-Berg, and brings together an all star cast.

Daniel Bruhl will take on the role of Domscheit-Berg, while Anthony Mackie, David Thewlis, Stanley Tucci and Laura Linney are all also on board.

The movie follows the early days of WikiLeaks, culminating in the release of a series of controversial and history changing information leaks.

The Fifth Estate marks a big leading role for Cumberbatch, and is set to send his star rocketing even further.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is one of Cumberbatch's films that I am really looking forward to as I can't wait to see how Smaug appears on the big screen.

Yes, the British actor is set to bring the dragon Smaug to life in the second of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit movies.

Smaug is a character that has been teased to us ever since An Unexpected Journey hit the big screen last year: now we get to see him in his full glory.

Cumberbatch has already tasted Oscar success this year with Star Trek Into Darkness, but The Desolation of Smaug is set to be one of the biggest movies of 2013.

One of the best ensemble casts of early 2014 comes in the form of August: Osage County - it really does have one super line-up.

Cumberbatch is joined on the cast list by Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Abigail Breslin, Ewan McGregor, Juliette Lewis and Chris Cooper: I told you it was impressive.

Directed by John Wells the movie is a big screen adaptation of the play by Tracy Letts - she has also penned the screenplay for the movie.

The movie tells the dark, hilarious and deeply touching story of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them.

August: Osage County is already being tipped as a possible Oscar contender and could well find itself in the running for some big gongs at the beginning of next year.

12 Years A Slave is the movie that just about everyone is talking about as it has been whipping up a storm on the festival circuit.

Cumberbatch is part of another fantastic cast as Chiwetel Ejiofor, Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Paul Dano and Paul Giamatti all help bring the true story of Solomon Northup to the big screen.

12 Years A Slave sees Steve McQueen return to the director's chair - this will be the first time that Cumberbatch has worked with this filmmaker - in what is his first film since Shame.

The film follows Solomon Northup, a free black man who is sold into slavery, the struggles that he faces and the people he meets.

When it comes to major Oscar contenders this is the film on everyone's lips, so don't be surprised if you see this waltz away with the Best Picture award on the night.

Cumberbatch is currently working on The Imitation Game, and he will be lending his voice to The Penguins of Madagascar and Magik.

The Fifth Estate is released 11th October.
