Captain America

Captain America

Marvel movies have dominated the box office these last few years and it seems that audience cannot get enough of these big screen heroes; every movie they seem to release is a huge box office hit.

Thor: The Dark World is the latest movie as it hits the big screen this week, and the first time that we have seen Thor on the big screen since the mammoth success of Avengers Assemble in 2012.

Thor: The Dark World is the second movie in Marvel’s Phase Two of films - a phase that was kicked off by the billion-dollar success of Iron man 3 earlier this year.

If you are a Marvel fan - and let’s face it who isn’t?  - you are in for a treat over the next couple of year as there are a whole host of exciting projects on the horizon, that will only cement Marvel as the king of the superhero movie.

Captain America: The Winter Solider - 30th March 2014

Captain America: The Winter Solider sees Chris Evans return to the title role for what will be the second solo movie for this character. We were treated to the first teaser trailer for the movie earlier this week and it promises to be an action packed treat.

The movie will address the fact that Steve Rodgers is now trying to find his place in modern day society. He teams up with Black Widow to expose a web of conspiracy that threatens to put the world at risk.

Evans is not the only familiar face returning as Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson are back as Black Widow and Nick Fury. There are some new additions: Anthony Mackie and Robert Redford being the stand out names.

An interesting relationship between Rodgers and Black Widow stared in Avengers Assemble, and it we are going to see that develop further in this new film. The Winter Solider is already one of the 2014 movies that we are super excited about.

Guardians of the Galaxy - 1st August 2014

We are going to be treated to two Marvel movies in 2014 - which is a super treat no matter which way you look at it. But Guardians of the Galaxy is a new addition to the franchise as we are going to be introduced to these characters for the first time.

James Gunn has penned the screenplay and is in the director’s chair for what is set to be the biggest movie of his career so far; he has given up Slither and Super in recent years.

As we have come to expect from Marvel movies a fantastic cast has been assembled as Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Glenn Close and Benicio Del Toro are all on board; you will get a first glimpse of Del Toro as The Collector in one of the after credit scenes in Thor: The Dark World.

Guardians of the Galaxy will follow a jet pilot who is stranded in space, and must unite a diverse team of aliens to form a squad capable of defeating cosmic threats.

We have become so familiar with all of the Marvel characters in recent years and it is great that we are going to be introduced to a whole new set of characters in a movie that will be, quite literally, out of this world.  Filming has wrapped and I am looking forward to seeing the first full trailer for the movie.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron - 1st May 2015

There may be two Marvel movies heading our way in 2014, but there is no film that is more talked about than The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Yes, the second Avengers movie is a good eighteen months away and yet it is the Marvel film that just about everyone is excited about.

Joss Whedon has penned the screenplay and we are going to see him back in the director’s chair once more. Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo will all be back as Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Hawkeye and Hulk - but there are some exciting new names on the cast list.

It was announced only yesterday that Aaron Taylor-Johnson had finally been officially signed up, he will team up with Elizabeth Olsen as siblings Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch: the offspring of Magneto.

A new Avengers movie means a new villain, and James Spader will be taking on the role of Ultron - that really is an exciting piece of casting and I am really looking forward to seeing how he tackles this role.

Avengers Assemble was a box office smash last summer - going on to become the third biggest grossing movie of all time - and Age of Ultron looks set to do just the same as it bring Phase Two of Marvel movies to a close.

Ant-Man - 31st July 2015

No sooner will we have said goodbye to Phase Two and we will be welcoming Phase 3, which will be kicked off Ant Man. Directed by Edgar Wright, Ant-Man will be another new franchise as we are introduced to Dr Hank Pym.

Who will play Pym is still not known - however, it seems that Paul Rudd is closing in on the part; he has been linked to the role for some time.

Biochemist Dr. Hank Pym uses his latest discovery, a group of subatomic particles, to create a size-altering formula. Though his first self-test goes awry, he develops an instrument that helps him communicate with and control insects.

This will be the biggest movie in Wright’s directing career to date, and he has teamed up with Joe Cornish to pen the screenplay.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron is expected to lead us into Ant Man; Ultron is, after all, the creator of Hank Pym.

Captain America: The Winter Solider, Guardians Of The Galaxy, The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man are the only movies to have officially been announced by Marvel: by Kevin Feige has revealed that there will be announcement about future projects next year.

All year there has been talk about how we are yet to see a female character lead a Marvel film, so could this be FINALLY on the horizon. I have to admit that I am not all that bothered about all things being equal between male and female Marvel films, but I would like to see the character of Black Widow explored.

By the time this movie could be potentially hitting the big screen we will have seen Black Widow in Iron Man 2, Avengers Assemble, Captain America: the Winter Solider and The Avengers: Age of Ultron; the word is that she will have a more prominent role in the Avenges sequel, so will this lead into a solo film?

Fans have also been calling for another Hulk movie - the first of course with Mark Ruffalo in the lead role as Bruce Banner - while others would like to see Loki get a solo movie.

There is no character more popular at the moment than Loki as he has lit up the big screen in Thor, Avengers Assemble and Thor: The Dark World. It has been announced that Loki will not be appearing in The Avengers: Age of Ultron; Kevin Feige has suggested that we won’t be seeing the character until a third Thor film.

However, a third Thor movie has not yet been announced and it seems that is may depend on how Thor: The Dark World performs; Feige has revealed that they already have ideas for a third film should it be given the go ahead.

It also looks like we will be getting a Doctor Strange movie, although where that may fall in the release schedule has yet to be revealed.

Thor: The Dark World is out now.
