Benedict Cumberbatch as John Harrison

Benedict Cumberbatch as John Harrison

We have already looked at some of the heroes that will be gracing the big screen in 2013... But you cannot have heroes without having villains as well.

Everyone loves a good villain and there are some terrific actors taking on these types of roles this year, we take a look at a handful that we should be watching out for.

- Mandarin

Iron Man 3 is one of the most anticipated of the summer blockbuster movies as Robert Downey Jr reprises the title role.

But Ben Kingsley is one of the most exciting new additions to the cast list as he takes on the role of the Mandarin.

The Mandarin is the leader of an international terrorist organisation and is the most famous of Iron Man’s foe. Kingsley revealed that he was really around to play with this character as he turns Tony Stark’s life upside down.

Guy Pearce is another of the villains in the movie as he takes on the role of Aldrich Killian but the Mandarin is the one that we are most looking forward to.

Iron Man 3 is released 26th April.

- John Harrison

Benedict Cumberbatch is a British actor rapidly on the rise and Star Trek Into Darkness is set to be his biggest movie role of his career to date.

He is set to take on the role of John Harrison in the second of director J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek movies - a film that comes four years after the first.

Since it was revealed who Cumberbatch would play it has been a source of great mystery as Harrison is not a character that existed in the original TV series.

There has been much speculation that Cumberbatch would take on the role of Khan in the film - rumours that were denied of course, but we will just have to wait and see what happens to John Harrison.

Star Trek Into Darkness is released 9th May

- General Zod

Superman returns to the big screen this summer in for form of Man of Steel as the franchise is given a much needed and long overdue reboot.

Superman’s foe this time around will be General Zod - a character played famously in the eighties by Terence Stamp - but this time around we will see Michael Shannon in the role.

General Zod is a Kryptonian general with the same powers as Superman and this new film will see the two foes go head to head once more.

Man of Steel is released 14th June

- President Snow

President Snow was one of the creepiest villains of 2012 when The Hunger Games was adapted for the big screen.

And Donald Sutherland is back in the role as The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is released later this year… and he is more villainous than ever.

This time around he is still trying to put an end to Katniss Everdeen’s influence as he sends her and Peeta back into the arena for the Quarter Quell.

Hopefully we will see a bit more of President Snow this time around as Sutherland just brings a really creepy vibe to this character.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is released 22nd November.

- Malekith/Loki

Thor: The Dark World is one of the autumn movies that we are really excited about here are FemaleFirst as we were such big fans of the first film.

While we see Chris Hemsworth take on the title role once again it is the appearance of Malekith in the franchise that we are super excited about.

Christopher Eccleston will take on the new villain and he is one of the exciting new faces on the cast list.

But Malekith is not the only villain to keep an eye out for in Thor: The Dark World as Tom Hiddleston will also be back as Loki.

Thor: The Dark World is released 30th October.
