George MacKay

George MacKay is a British actor who really is on the rise. If you are a fan of his work then you are in for a treat as he is starring in two of this week's releases.

We are set to see two very different sides to this actor this week, as he stars in the big screen adaptation of How I Live Now; a dark coming of age movie.

He is also part of a fantastic cast of Sunshine On Leith; a musical based on the hit stage show, directed by Dexter Fletcher.

MacKay kicked off his acting career when in 2003 when he took on the role of Curly in Peter Pan.

Peter Pan proved to be the break that he needed as since then he as worked in film and television.

Since then we have seen him in the likes of Defiance, The Boys Are Back and Hunky Dory as he jumped from genre to genre honing his craft.

More recently the actor has focused on his film work with roles in Private Peaceful and For Those In Peril.

But these latest two projects could be a big moment in MacKay's career as he makes the jump from child actor to adult star.

Kevin Macdonald and Dexter Fletcher are two of this country's biggest directors, and these projects look set to move MacKay's career along nicely.

How I Live Now is an adaptation of the Meg Rosoff novel, and follow a group of teenagers as they face the struggles and uncertainty of way.

Sunshine On Leith will see MacKay take on the role a solider who, along with his friend, return home to Edinburgh after a stint in Afghanistan.

Sunshine On Leith is already being called 'the feel good film of the year', and will show off a more musical side to this actor.

MacKay will be back on the big screen in November as he stars in comedy Breakfast With Johnny Wilkinson, which is directed by Simon Sprackling.

He has also completed work on Bypass; the second feature film from director Duane Hopkins.

George MacKay is an actor to really keep an eye out for over the next few years as he continues to show his versatility as an actor.

How I Live Now and Sunshine On Leith are released 4th October.
