Our search for the Worst Films of 2015 continues and we are at number five today... and Fifty Shades of Grey is in the spotlight.

Fifty Shades of Grey

Fifty Shades of Grey

I have to say, I am not surprised that these hugely successful books were adapted for the big screen, but a bad novel rarely makes for a good film - in this case, it would appear to be true. I really don't know what all the fuss was about these books as they were an awful read - I only read the first one and couldn't bear to tackle another.

The cast list Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele immediately sent their stars rocketing as they teamed up for the first time. The movie also saw Sam Taylor-Johnson in the director's chair for her first film since making her debut with Nowhere Boy back in 2009.

Fifty Shades of Grey follows literature student Anastasia Steele's life changes forever when she meets handsome, yet tormented, billionaire Christian Grey.

The main problem with the books is that there is virtually no story... and the feature film has the same problem. Two people meet, he gets her into S&M, she leaves and doesn't want to have the kind of relationship and that is it. I don't know about you, but that doesn't make for a riveting watch.

The on-screen relationship between Dornan and Johnson is awkward at best and you never really feel that there is a spark between these two actors. Having said that, I did like Dornan in this role and I thought he did capture that secretive side of Christian Grey really well.

This is just a movie that is packed with moments of nudity and titillation and we never get anything more. There's no story, there's no emotion, and there's nothing in the way of character development.

Of the two central characters, Christian is the most interesting and Dornan does his best to bring some intrigue to him. However, the same cannot be said for Dakota Johnson as Anastasia - she is as one-dimensional at the end of the film as she is at the beginning.

From the minute that Fifty Shades of Grey starts, you know that this movie is nothing more than jumping on a successful bandwagon to make a bit of cash. You have to remember that the books are not good to start with and this movie trilogy would not have been given the green-light if they hadn't had been as popular as they are.

I think that they did the best adaptation they could have of a dull and uninteresting book, but it really does make for an awful and boring watch. If I were you, I would avoid the film and the novel.
