Debts will gobble up the bulk of tragic DJ Adam Goldstein’s fortune, according to documents filed in Los Angeles.

The hitmaker and club icon, aka DJ AM, did not have a will, so his grieving mum Andrea Gross has been forced to file papers as his sole heir.

The documents, obtained by TMZ.com, suggest Goldstein had property worth $3.5 million (£2.3 million) and an additional $400,000 (£266,600) in assets, but his debts totalled $2.9 million (£1.9 million).

However, Gross is hoping to offset some of the debt by proceeding with the DJ's plans to sell his Los Angeles home, which is on the market for $699,000 (£466,000). During a hearing in L.A. County Superior Court on Wednesday (02Sep09), a judge granted Gross' request to be named special administrator of Goldstein's estate.

Legal documents state the DJ had already hired a real estate broker and was about to "accept an offer at the time of his death". Gross will now be allowed to finalise the deal.

His mother was also approved to hold settlement talks with the company which owned the Learjet involved in a 2008 plane crash which almost killed her son and his pal Travis Barker.

The two friends were the only survivors of the accident, which occurred when the jet flying them back to Los Angeles from an airport in South Carolina failed to clear a runway and burst into flames.

Goldstein, who was left badly burned after the tragedy, filed a $20 million (£13.3 million) lawsuit for damages in March.

According to E! News, DJ AM, who was found dead in his New York apartment last Friday (28Aug09), will be buried on Wednesday afternoon in a Jewish ceremony at Los Angeles' Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary.
