Infamous italo-disco producer and legendary DJ Alexander Robotnick is making a fresh assault on dance floors this spring, getting set to send bodies throbbing with his latest release ‘Obsession For The Disco Freak’.

Currently residing in Florence, Italy, Robotnick, real name Maurizio Dami, first graced the Italian music scene in the early eighties with dance-cabaret band Avida. He seized international acclaim with cult track ‘Problèmes d'Amour’, a synth driven mix of sonorous beats and interlacing male & female vocals that captivated the dance scene of the mid- eighties.

The early nineties saw Robotnick deviate from the world of synthesisers and shed the pseudonym that bought him recognition. He joined multimedia collective Giovanotti Mondani Meccanici composing soundtracks for theatre works and videos before further immersing himself in music of different genres. He collaborated with musicians of varying cultures before hooking up with Indian-Italian band Govinda to produce tracks for their debut album ‘Selling India By The Pound’.

The turn of the millennium saw Robotnick once again subsume his electronic routes, trading synth for decks, he began DJing and performing live at numerous clubs across the world and filling dance floors with a fusion of old school tunes and current electro house and disco tracks. With the creation of his own label Hot Elephant Music Robotnick released single ‘Oh No….Robotnick!’ in 2002 and has since been producing electronic music for an array of record labels.

On his latest offering Robotnick returns with a pulsating fusion of melodic motifs, set over undulating basslines and clamorous beats and shows he still has his finger firmly on the pulse with his choice of remixers.  First up is David Caretta, who infuses the track with his trademark electro-tech sound, whilst long standing former Trash resident and Durr headliner Rory Philips douses Robotnick’s original in his distinctive electronic oddities. Mancunian duo of the moment HeavyFeet mash squelching basslines with a musical tidal wave of dance genres, to create a mix set to resonate the dance floor, with disco aficionado Andy Blake of Dissident Records stepping away from his vinyl for a moment to round off the package nicely with a fifteen minute epic.
