Laura Marling has announced that she will be touring the UK at the beginning of next year.

The 21 year old revealed a string of dates and venues that she will play throughout March 2012, which include Leeds, Glasgow and Manchester.

“I was very self-aware, as most young people are. On this one, I let the strings go a little bit”

This will be the Hampshire singer’s second major UK tour in the space of just five months, as she performed 11 shows in cathedrals across Britain in October. In a recent interview with The Guardian, the singer said: “The tour of English cathedrals – including York Minster – was very special and quite intimidating as well.”

Both tours follow the release of her third album ‘A Creature I Do Not Know’, which has received raving reviews from both critics and fans. The Guardian’s, Killian Fox, describes it as being “A rich, complex and deeply felt record,” and also said that it is “…Marling's most mature work to date.”

The folk singer also admitted that her latest album was much different from her first two. During her Guardian interview she said: “I was very self-aware, as most young people are. On this one, I let the strings go a little bit.”

Marling first made her mark on the music scene in February 2008 when she released her album, ‘Alas, I Cannot Swim’. She was also working with fellow folk musicians, Noah and the Whale, at the time (she can be seen in the ’5 Years’ Time’ video), however left the band that same year to pursue her solo career.

In 2010 the singer brought out her second album, ‘I Speak Because I Can’, which earned her another nomination for the Mercury Prize (‘Alas, I Cannot Swim’ was also nominated for it in 2008). Despite missing out on both awards, she was finally rewarded for her music a year later, when she won Best British Solo Female Artist at the 2011 Brit Awards.

Marling’s 2012 tour starts at Cambridge Corn Exchange on 1 March and finishes at Nottingham Royal Concert Hall on 13 March.
