Dolly Parton - 70 today!

Dolly Parton - 70 today!

In recent years she's taken to the Glastonbury Stage, released record after record and continued to impress with her various talents.

Today - January 19, 2016 - she's celebrating her 70th birthday, so what better way to celebrate alongside Dolly than by listening to five of her greatest ever songs?

1) 'Islands In The Stream' with Kenny Rogers, 1983

Zooming to number one on the Billboard Hot 100, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton banked on their success with 'Islands In The Stream' by going on to record a Christmas album together. They hit the charts once more with 1985 collaboration 'Real Love'.

2) 'I Will Always Love You', 1974 and 1982

Some people still don't know that Dolly is the original singer of 'I Will Always Love You', instead mistaking it as Whitney Houston's. The original version is very different to Whitney's, and is always worth a listen.

3) '9 To 5', 1980

Arguably her most famous track, '9 To 5' is not just an iconic song but an award-winning tune. It took two Grammy Awards - one for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and the other for Best Country Song.

4) 'Blue Smoke', 2014

Dolly returned to releasing new music in 2014 ahead of her Glastonbury appearance with new album 'Blue Smoke', and it's that title track which will get right under your skin with its infectious country nature. You'll be choo-choo-ing and singing along before you know it and, you may even throw a little jig in there...

5) 'Jolene', 1973

'Jolene' tells a stunning story, of a woman confronting the titular character whom she believes is trying to steal her partner. As one of Dolly's biggest hits, it became the first to enter the Top Ten in the UK and Parton's second solo number one single on the US country charts.
