Walking through London's busy streets last Monday morning I came across a Busker singing Johnny Cash's 'I Walk The Line' - it immediately brought me clarity and lifted my mood. Even though commuters were rushing past me trying to get to their desks on time to begin the working week, for me, the whole of London came to a stand still as I stopped to enjoy one of the most well known songs from a true Country music icon.

Johnny Cash wasn't known for his cheery songs of course, in fact, his music echoed themes of sadness, heartache and redemption - especially in the later stages of his career. However, hearing 'I Walk The Line' made me remember the freedom music brings and how one song can be so powerful that it can change your mood or reflect exactly the way you are feeling.

I love every type of music I honestly believe that good music is exactly that - good music but, there's something about Country… I just can't explain it…I guess, it just represents me better than anything and when I hear that music I feel things that I don't feel with any other type of music. I suppose it's how Country music can be fun, sentimental and sad all at the same time.

Country music is really flourishing right now in the UK. It's opening doors for up and coming artists like myself and bands such as Ward Thomas and Jess and The Bandits - doors that might not necessarily have opened ten years ago.

That's why I'm so fortunate to have been able to record my debut album 'Raze Me To The Ground' it's areal mix of Country, Pop and Rock. It's not just about doing what I love but being fortunate enough to make the album that I wanted to make. I suppose to me singing and writing music is just like running is to somebody else - it's my release and brings me clarity. It helps me understand my emotions and makes it easier to deal with life's challenges because I get to release my thoughts and my feelings through my songs.

My album is very personal, everything that I've written is from personal experiences and I couldn't and wouldn't have done it any other way.

It would have been a lie if I didn't talk about something that really happened to me or that I had personally experienced. Music is how I express myself, it's all about the mind - the singing and the music is just my personal instrument.

Giulia's new single 'Turn Your Light On' is released April 27, the same day as new album 'Raze Me To The Ground'.
