Still Flyin’

Still Flyin’

After releasing debut single ‘Good Thing It's a Ghost Town Around Here’, San Francisco’s 15 piece Still Flyin’ are set to release new single ‘Forever Dudes’ on the 23rd February through Moshi Moshi.

Whilst 2008 has seen bands from North America’s East Coast plundering the sounds of Graceland-appropriated afrobeat, Still Flyin’s sound comes from somewhere entirely different. Theirs is a sound that mixes the melodies and DIY aesthetic of West Coast indie-pop with the loose grooves of 1960s rocksteady, and has converted even the most cynical of hipsters.

‘Forever Dudes’ is three minutes of Californian sun-kissed, good-times music, set to blow away any lingering winter blues. Soundtracked by rousing brass, hammond organ and layered west coast harmonies, Still Flyin’ have no detailed master plan other than making life-affirming music to party to.

The band’s joyfully chaotic and infectious live shows are more like huge parties: 15 people in the band playing trombones, saxophones, singing, clapping and dancing like their lives depend on it. Having been joined on stage in the past by the likes of Jens Lekman and various members of Architecture In Helsinki, a gig with Still Flyin’ is very special indeed.

The band is currently putting the finishing touches to their debut record, ‘Never Gonna Touch The Ground’. Recorded in San Francisco and mixed by members of Architecture In Helsinki, the record is due to be released in April 2009 through Moshi Moshi Records and promises to be full of HammJamm spirit.
