Jay Sean

In the past 12 months, Jay Sean has signed with Cash Money, achieved the coveted #1 spot in America and two top ten singles in the UK.  He has also since recorded a duet with Justin Timberlake, had George Michael saying he is one of the best singers in the UK and Taylor Swift said his song Down was her favourite song of last year. He has a new single, 2012, out on October 18th and album, Freeze Time, out November 1st.

Hello there little monster, what are you up to?

I’m just coming to England for a Promo run, but only for a week.  This week is the week of release of my single “2012” and I’m also performing at the MOBO Awards.  So it’s going to be a fun packed, busy week!

So, tell me a bit about what you’re here to promote?

My new single, 2012, features Nicki Minaj who is one of the hottest rappers in the world right now.  The single drops in the UK this week and it’s been a while since I’ve been able to come over and do some promo as they’ve been keeping me so busy stateside, so I’m excited to be here.

And if we didn’t have any clue as to who you were, what three words sum you up?

Ambitious.  Fun-loving.  Compassionate.

And as Jacko had the Moonwalk and Elvis had the snake hips, what do you have that makes you unique?

Pat the dog and twist the lightbulbs.

Now, clearly we need to get to know each other more, so tell me an interesting fact about you that noone else knows?

I have a foot fetish.

What song do you wish you’d written?

Happy Birthday to You!  For the publishing.  <laughs> No, probably Human Nature by Michael Jackson and Ne-Yo’s So Sick.

If I was contemplating coming to your show or sitting at home and TV, how would you convince me to come out?

My live show is where I actually come to life.  It’s where you get to know about me as a person and you don’t get that listening to a CD.  I feel too many people nowadays don’t put enough into their live show, but that to me is why I do this, why I’m in this game.  How I connect to my audience.  How you get to know me and how I get to know you.

And if you were to take me on a trip to your hometown, what would be the first place we’d go?

To my parent’s house in Hounslow, so I can make you some nice Indian tea…well, my mum can.  Give you some nice Indian Curry.

Who was the last person you called / text and what for?

Let’s have a look.  My best friend in England.  The boys want to go out tonight but I said I’m not sure that I can fit it into my schedule so they are calling me a wanker!

If you were a superhero, what would be your superpower?

To be able to read women’s minds.

What was the last thing you bought?

Some whiskey for my grandad.

Have you ever been arrested?

No

Speaking of prison - if you were to send someone to prison for crimes against music, who would it be?

Ke$ha.

What were you doing‌ last night‌ at 11?

On a plane from LA to London.
