Ariana & The Rose

Ariana & The Rose

Ariana is an artist who isn't afraid of working hard to get where you want to be. We got a chance to chat to one of the nicest up-and-coming musicians around about her upcoming releases including new single 'Heartbeat', her inspirations and where she hopes to be this time next year.

How would you describe yourself, as an artist?

I'd like to think of myself as multi-dimensional. I come from a theatre background and I started playing piano from a really young age, and I was a drama major at college so, I sort of
found my way into music after I had been performing live in theatre.

I don't necessarily have a theatrical aspect to my show - I have pyrotechnics and storytelling and things - but it was just sort of the need to tell a story and convey that in a live show -
that is a thing that I would really use as a way to define myself as an artist.

Who inspires you in the world of music?

Gosh, I really love - obviously my music is really electronic - I really love synth-pop, I love artists like Goldfrapp and Daft Punk and Depeche Mode. There's also people like Alanis
Morisette and Fiona Apple that I just - lyrically and song writing wise - I feel were so amazing at telling stories while also writing melodies that hooked people in, so I really strive to do that.

How have you found breaking into the music industry?

Well... I would say it's up and down. It's one of those things. Some days you're like 'oh my gosh, this is so easy I love this', then you have other days when you're like 'this is horrible,
it's never gonna happen!', so I have found it to be really, really wonderful and I think the reception - especially here in London - has been amazing and I really feel humbled that people like the music and I've been really fortunate to have some great champions come on in the early stage of my career so I've found it to be like anything is - a lot of hard work and keeping your head on your shoulders, and a lot of fun.

You mentioned London, and you've performed there at a few dates - how has that experience been for you?

It was the best, the most fun - you come over here - to another country - and you don't know how everyone's going to respond and everyone's just been so lovely.

With your debut single 'Heartbeat' out in November, what should we expect?

You can expect a lot of content. I've just sort of finished a whole slew of videos from live shows to music videos to acoustic sessions, and the single is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what we have ready to roll out. I've been creating all this stuff and I'm excited to finally share it with everybody.

What can you tell us about these upcoming projects?

All of them are a growth of each other. I really try and create content that varies and so obviously 'Heartbeat' is the single - so we have live content of me doing that, acoustic sessions
of that song, then we also have different numbers of videos and acoustic MP3s and remixes of all the songs on the record, so as we get closer and closer to the EP release in January I'll be releasing more things that continue to build on the other ones. As I release more materials your audience gets to learn more about you, and see different levels of the project.

You've been in Paris - what have you been up to while there?

I was at Paris Fashion Week, and I attended a bunch of the shows as well as doing some press and interviews just promoting the single that's about to come out. It was just the loveliest time, it was like being in a dream, I love Paris. (laughs)

What are you hoping to get out of the next 12 months?

Oh dear - so many things! I'm hoping to really, more than anything, have the music reach as many people as it possibly can. That's my goal and that's all you really want as a musician. You create a record and you spend so much time - I write all my own music - to just find an audience that connects with the music is all that I can want out of the 12 months, and I'm going back into writing, doing co-writes and I'll be travelling to start writing a full-length. That'll be released probably late 2014, so hopefully by the time next year rolls around I will have found or at least started to find a group of people that really respond to the music and relate to it.
