Ashleigh Ashley

How best would you describe yourself as an artist?

Multifaceted. Music is the main part of my creativity as an artist, but film and fashion complete the triangle!

How important is it for you to have creative control over what you do?

Like most artists it's I like to have as much creative control as possible, but part of that is knowing when to relinquish control to someone who knows better! I'm a total control freak so this is something I'm still working on! (laughs)

What led you to going down this path of pursuing a career in the music industry?

Madness! (laughs) No seriously, it's blind faith and passion that drives me! And music is one thing I feel I'm actually good at, so I can't help but pursue the dream.

What does music mean to you?

Unity, creativity and the ultimate means of expressing the human condition.

You recently premiered your new track 'Back To Me' - how have you found the response to that song?

The response has been amazing! Every song you put out is like baring a bit of your soul for the world to see so it's very satisfying to know people enjoy it!

What should fans expect from your 'Criminal Angel' EP?

A whole spectrum of emotions! Drama in songs like 'Criminal Angel' and 'Piece of Me' and hope in songs like 'Silver' & 'Back To Me'! Each song tells a different story about love, life and of course the infamous ex!

What process did you go through to create this EP?

Took a year out to write it! Stopped performing and trying to be someone else, and really studied my environment and how the people in it effected my life !

You'll be performing at Ronnie's Bar in Soho on June 24, what should those coming to the show expect?

A bloody good show! Me and the band are in rehearsals now and we're really work in hard to make sure the set is fun & dynamic! We have an amazing guest act on the night too... can't say who she is just yet but I'm totally honoured to play alongside her!

If you could work with anyone in the future who would you choose and why?

Really like what stateside producers from Fade To Mind are doing right now! They've just finished an epic alternative R'n'B project with Kelela and I could totally see myself writing some good things with them!

What do you hope to achieve in the future?

My biggest aim is to write a movie soundtrack, following in the steps of our own Adele and Ed Sheeran! Oh... and world domination! (laughs)

Is there one major thing you'd love to do if given the opportunity?

Other than the movie soundtrack I'd absolutely love to work with Pharrell Williams on a song and a clothing range!

What should we expect from you in the months following the EP?

More music, more instalments of my 'Covers In Light' series...which kicked off with the Waves mash up I put up over the weekend, and some cool collaborations!

Are there any other projects you're currently involved with that you can share some details about?

An artist never tells! (laughs) Yes there are a few things we're plotting in the AA camp, but it's early days yet... we'll just have to wait and see!
