How does it feel to be releasing your brand new single 'Hole In My Heart'?

It feels incredible... An amazing time in my life. It was one of the first songs I wrote after the X Factor tour with Roy Stride from Scouting For Girls.

I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did writing it.

What are you hoping to convey with this new release?

That my heart has been broken before and nobody chooses who they fall in love with, but when they do it's beautiful, yet can be so destructive at the same time.

What was it like filming the music video for this track?

The video was such a surreal experience for me. One thing I do remember was acting out the song twice as fast to the camera and sounding a bit like a chipmunk. This was embarrassing in a room full of people who had never heard the song the song before, who knows what they were thinking.

Since viewers of The X Factor saw you on television you've been busy - tell us about the experience since then and what you've been up to.

I've had so many amazing experiences, such as touring with The Vamps, writing songs with amazing people, like Mike Duce from Lower Than Atlantis, playing all over the UK, meeting some amazing Friendies and all while moving to a new city all on my own, and learning to live by myself.

Was The X Factor experience always a pleasant one for you? There's always rumours of drama behind the scenes and a lack of control for artists!

X Factor was a pleasurable experience, there is high stages of stress involved but as a musician you should learn how to deal with this. I remember some shows I was slightly panicked before hand, but I kept going through the song in my head, and soon I was feeling alright again.

Many say the show should now finish, do you think it's still got legs to run on?

Of course it does, there is always going to be fresh new talent out there and the show is a great finder of that. You should never under-estimate [it]. Look what it has brought you, One Direction, Ella Henderson and more.

Going forward, who would you love to work with on new music and releases, and why?

I would definitely love to work with Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam, 'cause he has been my idol ever since I first picked up a guitar. Since then people like him have inspired me to write my own songs, and taught me to not change who I am.

You've got live dates coming up, what should those coming to those shows expect?

A high energy performance, filled with audience participation, and a damn good boogie too. I certainly won't just be stood still.

Do you have definitive aims or goals for your career?

I'd soon like to be selling out Madison Square Garden with just myself, guitar and my wonderful friend, the Friendies... and I know we can do it.

What should we expect from you in the coming weeks and months aside from the single release?

Its going to be busy, I have a lot of live performances and a lot of engagement with the fans.

Luke Friend's new single 'Hole In My Heart' is released on Sunday, March 29.
