Megan Wyler

After releasing her debut album in December last year, Megan Wyler has made an impression on the big bosses at Sainsbury's who now use her new single 'Just Can't Get Enough' for their on-going Everyday Food campaign.

FemaleFirst got the chance to chat to Megan about her step into the music industry, what to expect in coming months and more.

When did you discover you had a voice?

When I sang Willie Nelsons ‘On the Road Again’ acapella to an auditorium full of people at a town talent show when I was 5 years old in Colorado.

What is it about music that you love?

I love music because it's transportational and transformational. It can be visual, visceral, emotional, nostalgic, immediate – depending on where you’re at and your relationship to the music you’re hearing. The same song hits everyone who’s hearing it differently. Music brings people together who would never otherwise be in the same room together. It's totally subjective and individual, like most things in life I guess, but I believe music is a language every human being understands.

Do you think it's a difficult industry to carve a career in and why?

Of course. Any career in the arts is a hard hill to climb. There are a lot of people in this world, and a hell of a lot of them are smart and beautiful and talented. You have to have a lot of passion, drive, luck and persistence to have a career in music. An incredible thing now is that there are so many ways to get your music out there, to make your music available to so many ears. That is such a change from when I first started doing music and I think its fantastic.

What is it about Depeche Mode's 'Just Can't Get Enough' that made you cover it and release it as a single?

Long time collaborators Luis Almau and Peter Raeburn had the idea, and they asked me if I was into doing it with them. I am a huge Depeche Mode fan, and that song is a classic, so I jumped at the idea. We all loved what came out of the session and decided to release it.

How does it feel to have your cover used on a Sainsbury's advert?

Very happy indeed. Nice to have it out there.

Who would you love to work with going forward and why?

I’ve always wanted to work with Dave Lowery, a beautiful musician and producer in the States. He’s made a bunch of very cool records - great songs and sounds. I would love to do another project with Adem Ilhan who produced my first record. A lovely guy named Iain Archer who I met recently is a jedi songwriter, writing an album with him would be stupendous. Peter Raeburn is the producer whose ears and ideas I trust the most, he makes things sound incredible. My friend Dawn Landes is one of the only female musician/producers I know who has all the chops and talents – from creative to technical. A project with her one day for sure.

What should we expect from you in the coming months?

Live shows here and there, but I am mostly in the studio finishing writing my next album.

Finally in regards to music what is the big aim?

Keep making it, releasing it, playing it and enjoying doing all of the above.
