The Fratellis

We got the opportunity to chat to Jon Fratelli all about the new music, life on the road and more - check out what he had to say below.

Your new album's out mid-August - what should fans expect from this record?

A whole lot of effort and a melody or two...

Can you tell us a little bit about the creative process behind this new LP?

Most of the songs on this record were written over the summer in 2014 in a fairly short space of time, as far as I can remember it was fairly effortless after that, we recorded it in four weeks in October last year.

Tony Hoffer produces the album after his work on your first album, what was it like to work with Tony again?

He makes life easy. You know he's going to make a great sounding record as he's a fan of the band, he's only going to push us to do something that he as a fan wants to hear.

Where do you now draw influence and inspiration from for your work?

Mine come from the same old places and really haven't changed since I was 16; Bob Dylan, Springsteen, Stones etc... rock 'n' roll itself is the biggest inspiration.

What have been some of your most memorable and enjoyable moments throughout your career to-date?

Meeting Baz and Mince has to be the main once, no them - no band.

And similarly, what have been some of the biggest challenges you've faced?

Maybe it took some time to get used to all the travel, I'm happiest when I stay in one place wherever that place might be, I've definitely gotten better at just going.

You'll be touring with the new material, what should fans coming to those dates expect from the live shows?

Well a whole bunch of new and old I reckon, we'll always play the songs that people want to hear... at the same time we're keen to get our teeth into the newer songs.

Do you enjoy the touring aspect of your career?

Yeah I do, it's a fairly ridiculous way of life, a bit of a comedy really.

What's it like when you're playing to a home crowd?

Honestly everywhere is a home crowd, we've been made to feel incredibly welcome by all the audiences who've ever come to see us play.

Aside from the album and tour, what should we expect from The Fratellis in the coming months?

Maybe we'll start to make more sense though I doubt it, just some more noise I guess!

The Fratellis release their fourth studio album 'Eyes Wide, Tongue Tied' on Friday August 21 via Cooking Vinyl.
