2 Chainz is hoping to run for mayor.

The rapper's revealed he's now hoping to embark on a new career in politics because he feels so strongly about the legalisation of marijuana, and was riled by a recent debate on the subject with television personality Nancy Grace.

Speaking to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper, he said: "I am looking forward to running at the end of this year or next year."

Suggesting he was considering the role earlier in the week, he confessed fans had been urging him to run for the role in his hometown of College Park in Georgia.

Though the rapper acknowledged he's never been a politician, he said he's hoping to gain relevant training so he can successfully undertake the role.

He added to XXL magazine: "I'm a musician, not a politician.

"I'm supposed to be running for mayor in College Park. I got everybody wishing. I'm really gonna do this little mayor thing in College Park. I'm just trying to make sure I have the right qualifications."

Despite his determination, he'll face huge competition from the area's mayor since 1996, Jack Longino.
