Australian singer EDITH BLISS has died after battling a long illness.

The pop star-turned-TV host passed away on Thursday (03May12) at the age of 52.

Bliss found fame Down Under after the release of her hit debut single If It's Love You Want in 1979 but later swapped music for a television career.

She became a household name for a generation of Aussie kids as a star reporter on Simon Townsend's Wonder World, which aired from 1979 until 1986.

Townsend paid tribute to mother-of-four Bliss, calling her "one of my favourite reporters on Wonder World" and admitting he was "very, very sad"to lose his pal.
