The 67-year-old singer-songwriter is an outspoken critic of the new US President and has promised to dedicate the next four years as part of "the new American resistance" to Trump.

Speaking during a show in Perth, Australia, he said: "The E Street Band is glad to be here in Western Australia.

"But we're a long way from home, and our hearts and spirits are with the hundreds of thousands of women and men that marched ... in every city in America and in Melbourne who rallied against hate and division and in support of tolerance, inclusion, reproductive rights, civil rights, racial justice, LGBTQ rights, the environment, wage equality, gender equality, healthcare, and immigrant rights. We stand with you. We are the new American resistance."

Earlier, the rock legend said his band will continue to shine a light on perceived social injustices.

Bruce explained: "We observe and we report, we witness and we testify, and hopefully through doing so we lift up and help people transcend and we try to inspire people during tough times.

"It's been our job for 40 years and it will continue to be so in the next coming years."

Meanwhile, Bruce recently confessed he finds it "frightening" when he plays new music for the first time, despite being one of the best-selling artists in history.

The 'Born in the USA' hitmaker shared: "You work on an album in a hermetically sealed environment. One of the most frightening things is playing it for someone else. For the first time you're hearing it through their ears.

"They're just sitting there, but you're hearing the thing totally brand new through their ears. And you're recognising all its faults and all its strengths. So the thing about coming out in front of an audience every night is that I'm hearing what I'm doing through that audience's ears."
