David Bowie wanted to "steal" Arcade Fire's new track 'Reflektor'.

The Canadian rock band - led by Win Butler and Régine Chassagne - coaxed the 'Let's Dance' hitmaker into a guest appearance on their comeback single, but he "threatened" to take the song for himself because he loved it so much.

Band member, Richard Reed Parry told NME magazine: "He basically came by the studio in New York while we were mixing, just to have a listen to the stuff we were doing. He offered to lend us his services because he really liked the song.

"In fact, he basically threatened us - he was like, 'If you don't hurry up and mix this song, I might just steal it from you!' So we thought, well why don't you sing on our version? Thankfully he obliged, and we were really happy about that."

The band released the single under the moniker 'The Reflektors' at 9pm in different time-zones around the world last Monday (09.09.13) and it was followed by a post on David Bowie's Facebook page confirming his guest spot

It read: "We can confirm David Bowie has supplied a brief backing vocal on the James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) produced track (no saxophone though), which is being issued under the alias of The Reflektors."

The new song is the first preview of Arcade Fire's forthcoming fourth album, also titled 'Reflektor', released on October 29.
