Norah Jones always "corrects people" from labelling her as a jazz musician "out of respect" for the genre.

The 37-year-old singer/songwriter is a massive fan of the style of music, so much so she used to consider herself a "jazz snob" during her younger years, but doesn't think her records do the description justice.

She said: "I come from that world. I used to be a jazz snob when I was younger. If I heard something I did classified as jazz, I'd be like, 'That's not jazz.' Any time I've corrected people from labelling me jazz.

"It's been out of respect for that music, not because I have a problem with being labelled that way. I really don't."

Norah doesn't agree with classifying an artist with a certain genre and loves experimenting on her records.

Speaking about the style of her latest album, 'Day Breaks', she said: "Let's just call it music. I don't see why you can't just do different things all the time."

Norah teamed up with the likes of rapper Common and drummer Karriem Riggins on her latest record, and admits she enjoys performing with versatile artists.

She added to Vogue.com: "I love playing with musicians who can do anything.

"Then you're not limited when you go in."

Norah has sold more than 45 million records worldwide throughout her career and won a host of awards, including nine Grammys, but recently admitted she was "way more" ambitious before she was famous.

She said: "It happened too fast. It felt insane and stressful, people knowing who you are, people critiquing you. And then the haters come out and hate you, and you're like, 'this is what people dream of, so why does it feel so weird?'"
