Sam Smith

Sam Smith

Sam Smith performed an emotional show in his hometown of London on Thursday night, November 6.

The singer took to the stage at the sold-out gig at the Eventim Apollo, performing hits from his number one debut album 'In The Lonely Hour', and seemed overwhelmed by the reaction from the audience.

Shortly after taking to the stage he said: "I'm completely speechless right now. I've managed to keep my cool until now but I'm s****ing myself right now. Being here today is very, very surreal so thank you for that."

Accompanied by his eight-piece backing band, he created reworked versions of his hits with tracks including 'Leave Your Lover', 'I'm Not The Only One' and a remix of 'Money On My Mind', mashed up with CeCe's Peniston classic 'Finally'.

When talking to the crowd at the gig the star also joked that he was glad people liked his music, because his earlier work was "awful".

"When I got signed two years ago I thought I was Lady Gaga or Beyonce and I was making awful music. I hope it never gets out!"

Elsewhere in his set, Sam performed a toned-down piano-led version of Naughty Boy collaboration 'La La La', Disclosure tune 'Latch' and a cover of Whitney Houston's 'How Will I Know'.

He ended the set with chart-topper 'Stay With Me' and said: "I hope you know how much it means that you're all here tonight!"

Sam will perform at the venue once more tonight, November 7.
