Taylor Swift has said it was "exciting" to make her first full pop album.

Moving away from her country roots for her latest record '1989', she does say that the change initially had her record label worried.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon she explained: "[The label] were very comfortable with what we had been doing because things had been going well.

"Making my last album was sort of a hybrid between country and pop. I just thought there's no way you can keep doing the same thing over and over again and it's got to be exciting to you or exciting for fans.

"You have to change things up and some people in my team were like, 'This is a great album. We love it. These songs are incredible; this is the best work you've ever done. Can you put three country songs on it please?'"

Meanwhile, she couldn't help but gush about the time she spent on stage recently performing with Sir Paul McCartney.

She joined the Beatles legend for Saturday Night Live's 40th anniversary show, for an unplanned 'Shake It Off' performance.

Jimmy, who also joined the pair on-stage for the performance, said: "You go, 'I'll do one of my songs' and you did and you started 'Shake It Off'. And I go, 'I don't know if Paul McCartney knows 'Shake It Off' and there he was, he knew 'Shake It Off'."
