Jay-Z

Jay-Z uses the lyrics to Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' in new track 'Holy Grail'.

The hip-hop superstar has been granted permission to use words written by the late grunge legend Kurt Cobain on his forthcoming album 'Magna Carta Holy Grail', by the star's widow Courtney Love.

Jay has now previewed the line "and we all just / entertainers / and we're stupid / and contagious," from the track 'Holy Grail', a collaboration with Justin Timberlake, in which he is expected to sing the lyrics as one of the song's hooks.

The words are close to those of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit's couplet: "Here we are now / entertain us / I feel stupid and contagious."

Courtney has admitted her decision to let Jay use Kurt's words may not be very popular with her daughter by the late star, Frances Bean Cobain.

She said: "I'm letting Jay-Z use lyrics - Frances would freak [if she knew about it]. Jay-Z's huge and we're friends. I mean we're not besties or anything."

Elsewhere in 'Holy Grail', Jay references Kurt, with the line: "Momma please just get my bail / I know nobody to blame / Kurt Cobain / I did it to myself."

Other stars mentioned in the song include rapper MC Hammer, late singer Michael Jackson and boxer Mike Tyson.
