JJ Cale

JJ Cale has died aged 74.

The US singer/songwriter and guitarist, who penned hits such as 'After Midnight' by Eric Clapton and 'Breeze' by Lynyrd Skynyrd, passed away at 8pm on Friday (26.07.13) in California after suffering a heart attack.

A post on his website stated: "JJ Cale Has Passed Away

"JJ Cale passed away at 8:00 pm on Friday July 26 at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, CA.

"The legendary singer / songwriter had suffered a heart attack.

"There are no immediate plans for services.

"His history is well documented at JJCale.com, rosebudus.com/cale, and in the documentary, To Tulsa And Back.

"Donations are not needed but he was a great lover of animals so, if you like, you can remember him with a donation to your favorite local animal shelter. (sic)"

JJ also teamed up with Clapton on album 'The Road to Escondido', which won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album in 2008.

The late singer recorded 14 studio albums and helped to create the Tulsa Sound, which combined blues, rockabilly, and country genres.

Several stars have paid tribute to the musician including US actress Daryl Hannah.

She wrote on Twitter: "RIP JJ Cale... peace xo (sic)
